چکیده

One of the nonpharmacological interventions used in the management of hypertension is moderate physical exercise. Moderate exercise is considered as a useful tool in reducing blood pressure and is often prescribed to hypertensive patients in addition to drug treatment (Mancia et al., 1999). Some studies indicated that moderate exercise increase left ventricular hypertrophy in rats and that the beneficial effect of exercise on hypertension is through the improvement in coronary micro vasculature (Anversa et al., 1983; Crisman & Tomanek, 1985). Moderate exercise has been shown to also induced myocardial capillary growth in the spontaneously hypertensive rat (Crisman & Tomanek) Others have suggested that moderate exercise in humans reduces left ventricular hypertrophy (Himeno et al., 1996; Hinderliter et al., 2002).

Chronic AT(1) blockade stimulates extracellular collagen type I degradation and reverses myocardial fibrosis in spontaneously hypertensive rats.

It has been suggested that left ventricular fibrosis in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) is the result of both exaggerated collagen synthesis and insufficient collagen degradation. We have shown previously that chronic treatment with the angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonist losartan results in diminished synthesis of collagen type I molecules and reversal of myocardial fibrosis in SHR...

Cardiovascular hypertrophy in diabetic spontaneously hypertensive rats: optimizing blockade of the renin-angiotensin system.

The aim of the present study was to compare the antihypertrophic effects of blockade of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), vasopeptidase inhibition and calcium channel antagonism on cardiac and vascular hypertrophy in diabetic spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). SHR with streptozotocin-induced diabetes were treated with one of the following therapies for 32 weeks: the angiotensin-converting...

Is gender crucial for cardiovascular adjustments induced by exercise training in female spontaneously hypertensive rats?

Evidence of mild hypertension in women and female rats and our preliminary observation showing that training is not effective to reduce pressure in female as it does in male spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) prompt us to investigate the effects of gender on hemodynamic pattern and microcirculatory changes induced by exercise training. Female SHR and normotensive controls (Wistar-Kyoto rats)...

Myocardial osteopontin expression coincides with the development of heart failure.

To identify genes that are differentially expressed during the transition from compensated hypertrophy to failure, myocardial mRNA from spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) with heart failure (SHR-F) was compared with that from age-matched SHR with compensated hypertrophy (SHR-NF) and normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY) by differential display reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. ...

Acute exercise exacerbates ischemia-induced diastolic rigor in hypertensive myocardium

Previous studies have shown that acute exercise preconditions the myocardium from ischemic injury. The purpose of this study was to test whether acute exercise protects the hypertensive myocardium from ischemia-induced diastolic rigor, and to compare the response between normotensive and uncompensated hypertensive hearts. Hearts harvested from female Wistar-Kyoto (WKY; n = 24) and spontaneously...
